Death of a butterfly
An original one person show written, directed, designed, and performed by Erica McGuire
Death of a Butterfly follows a young girl named Ana who is desperate to reconnect with her father who passed away. Resorting to magic and her own spiritual practices, she uses her body as a vessel for Spirit to communicate with her. Things go wrong when instead of reaching her father, she comes into contact with the spirits of her great-grandmother and little cousin who both greet her with love, wit, and words of wisdom. Ana is forced to face her grief head on, and when she is in her darkest moment, hope rises with the sun.
This is a story based on real people and real experiences from my life. As someone who lost her father at a very young age, I have a deeply intimate relationship with grief, depression, and hope. This story is for people who have lost someone they love. It is a love letter to those who are grieving and to those who feel like all hope is lost. There is a light in the darkness, you just have to be open to surrendering to it.
